House is disco’s revenge.

What do How To Have Fun, Artists & Models, Jam Club, Mean Alices,
MC Comptons and Buddies all have in common?

They were scenes frequented by discerning partiers who sought a certain vibe, design, performance and mostly music. Mostly HOUSE Music. Frankie Knuckles, Godfather of House, once said, “House is Disco’s revenge!” While most say Disco and the dance palaces it inspired fizzled in the early ‘80s House music stepped in and kept the pulsing beat going up to the present day. In NYC, Ibiza, Berlin, LA, Vegas, London, TO and now streaming world-wide 24/7.

Anthony Billoni became immersed in the rich Buffalo creator community during the late ’70 DIY years of punk rock. When it seemed like nearly every new band was coming out of his native Kenmore and inspired by Electorman’s Mark Freeland, Billoni formed the Atones followed by Bulletproof Claudia.  Soon after he began making videos and performance art under the mentorship of Tony Conrad. Then in 1981 as Hallwalls performance art curator he gave WNY a healthy dose of what was happening on Lower East Side in NYC. Continuing in producing art and entertainment he founded the Artists & Models Affair, the Jam Club and Crash.

Leaving the world of art/entertainment producing led him to meet other types of creators who brought new energy to business and leadership at the Creative Problem Solving Institute While he has been a leadership consultant at APEX Leader Growth for several years now, Billoni never stopped supporting WNY arts, serving Hallwalls, Buffalo Cable Access Media, Squeaky Wheel, Arts for Learning, Buffalo Arts Studio, UB Art Galleries and Assembly House 150.  He has been a cast member of locally produced and airing nationally on RetroTelevision Off Beat Cinema for nearly 30 years.

Tina Contis-Quinn, LadyTCQ as she’s known in some circles is a muse, artist, musician, creator, designer, planner of other people’s lives and lover of HOUSE music.  Born & raised in Buffalo, NY in the Coldspring district, a graduate of Buffalo State, she began her journey as an artist’s muse working with Buffalo photographer, Eric M. Jensen,  whom she inspired to do his “Nudes and Modern Beauty” series which garnered him a best in show at CEPA/Hallwalls and pieces featuring her being included in the permanent collection at the Albright Knox Art Gallery.
Leaving Buffalo in the late 80’s, Tina moved to NYC where she would work with other artists such as Jacqueline Tarry & Bradley McCallum of Conjunction Arts and artist, Sol Sax, whom she would create 40ft tall sculptures for out of deconstructed Mavi jeans and be featured in shows at MoMA P.S1 in LIC, Rush Arts in Manhattan, and contribute to the Silence and Witness exhibitions created by McCallum & Tarry/Conjunction Arts.
Being the creative mind that is LadyTCQ, she joined forces with 3 of her college friends and a transplant from Burbank to form the 5piece Grrrl garage band, Bikini Contest where she would play keyboards in the band as “Blondie Bikini” and sing lead on the rocking song, “Chicks Kick”.  Bikini Contest would go on to be one of the featured bands to open up for Rock legends, Soundgarden and Metallica in the Chill Tent at Lollapalooza’98, Randall’s Island Park, NYC.

Tina’s love of House music has taken her around the world dancing to the beats of global DJs to places like Ibiza, Mallorca, Goa, Koh Phanang, Toronto and the beaches and deserts of California and Arizona where she has danced to the rhythmic flow of DJs Marques Wyatt, Osunlade, Little Louie Vega, Frankie Knuckles, Nicodemus & Osiris, Sasha & Digweed, and many others.

Recently returned to her home town after a 30+ year hiatus between NYC, LA and the deserts of AZ, Tina continues to inspire and create art, now herself with paintings in oils and mixed media and still brings her love of HOUSE to the people on the dance floor as a member of How to Have Fun and the BoomRoom, Buffalo, NY’s home where HOUSE Lives!
